The beauty of buying PLR is that, as well as getting content at much more affordable rates, you can save time by having the content already written for you. The reason why PLR articles are so affordable is that many people are sold the exact same articles. This begs the question: do you need to rewrite PLR to get any value out of it?
You Don’t Always Need to Rewrite PLR (The Duplicate Content Myth)
The answer is that you don’t always have to rewrite PLR. I know this may seem a little vague, but there are a few reasons behind this.
Firstly, it’s important to understand that the “duplicate content penalty” is just a myth. That is, the idea that Google will punish you because the content on your site may be the same as the content on another site. Plenty of websites thrive off duplicate content, including news sites and even some areas of Google itself!
The real problem comes when you decide to post the same content multiple times on your own website. So, in this respect, using PLR that others may use on other sites is perfectly legitimate.
Do Un-Rewritten PLR Articles Rank As Well As Rewritten Articles?
There’s a big debate around the question of whether un-rewritten PLR articles rank as well in Google (and other search engines) as rewritten ones. This isn’t written in stone: it depends on so many factors. For example, if your site already holds a lot of trust in Google as an authority site, the chances are you can still get un-rewritten articles to rank well quickly. If your site is brand new and only contains un-rewritten PLR, you may need to spend a little more time marketing it to achieve the results you want.
So Why Bother Rewriting PLR At All?
So why all this talk of rewriting your PLR to get the best results? There are quite a few reasons why you may choose to rewrite PLR even though you don’t always have to:
1) Because You Have To: Sometimes you really do have no choice. For example, if you want to use PLR for article marketing at Ezine Articles, it’s actually against their rules. You must thoroughly rewrite it in order to get it accepted. This is also the case at a number of other article directories and Web 2.0 sites. Similarly, some PLR licences may stipulate that the PLR must be rewritten (this isn’t the case at Net PLR: you can use my articles as-is).
2) Because Your PLR Isn’t Optimised: Although all the articles here at Net PLR are optimised for highly searched keywords, not all PLR articles are. In any case, you may want to choose different keywords to target, or may not want to target keywords at all. These are all reasons for rewriting your PLR, if only a little.
3) Because You Want To Add Your Own Style: Even the most well-written PLR content isn’t going to match your individual style of writing. If your personal style is important to your website or blog, it makes sense to rewrite the PLR in your own way.
4) Because You Want to Add Your Own Expertise: Often, bloggers and webmasters buy PLR because they don’t have authority in a certain niche. But if you do have some expert knowledge to add, it’s a really good idea to do so. It helps to make sure your article, and your website as a whole, stands out above the competition!
5) Because You Want To Achieve Maximum Results: As I mentioned earlier, Google is often more reluctant to rank un-rewritten PLR in the search engines. This isn’t always the case, but often you’ll find that taking time to rewrite your PLR (even if only changing around a few sentences or a couple of paragraphs) can give your site a better chance of success.
More About Rewriting PLR
It’s up to you whether you choose to rewrite your PLR or not. Although it takes a little time, it’s still far quicker than writing the article from scratch. You don’t need to spend time coming up with ideas, coming up with keywords (if the PLR articles are keyword-optimised), researching the content and structuring it well. All you need to do is write it in your own words.
For more tips on doing it yourself, stay tuned for future blog posts or take a look at pages 8-10 of my VIP Guide (sign up as a free Net PLR VIP member and you’ll get it in your inbox for free). You can also take advantage of writing services, such as Human Rewriter, which are generally far cheaper to use than original content writing services.
Whatever you do, make sure you actually use your PLR! I know all too well how many people download PLR and leave it sitting on their hard drive. It can’t do anything for you if you don’t use it on your websites!
